TAMPA, Fla. - Following Major League Soccer’s announcement today regarding the suspension of Sporting Kansas City midfielder Felipe Hernandez for betting on MLS matches, the USL has suspended the player from all USL competitions immediately and until further notice. Hernandez made two appearances this season on loan with Sporting Kansas City II, having previously made his USL Championship debut for the side in 2017.

USL prohibits players from betting on any soccer game. All players, club and league employees complete annual mandatory compliance training, and the USL Betting and Integrity Policy includes the following language:

“The integrity of sport is at the core of everything we do. It defines who we are, how we operate, and how we are perceived by the general public. USL has long prohibited League participants from betting on soccer and engaging in other activities that would jeopardize the integrity of sport.”
