EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC Academy brought home yet another piece of silverware this weekend when the U-14 Boys toppled competition to claim the championship in their division at the Arizona College Showcase in Phoenix.

“We believe our Academy programs offer everything a high-level soccer player might want: development, exposure, and high-level competition,” said Academy Director Ivan Militar. “This is what we believe in and this is why we will continue to attend showcase events like this one.”

The U-14 Team went undefeated in group play, outscoring their opponents by a staggering 25 goals (27 goals for, 2 goals against). With a 4-0 win in the final, the team accumulated 31 goals in total at the showcase. The Academy’s U-13 and U-20 teams also participated in the showcase, both putting up a 1-1-1 record in their groups.

Formerly Sereno Soccer Showcase, the Arizona College Showcase was established in 1999 and is organized by Real Salt Lake-AZ, who operate under Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer. With professional-quality fields and facilities, the showcase is one of the state’s top youth soccer events and was a great opportunity for players to showcase their talents in highly competitive soccer matches in front of college coaches from some of the top programs in the nation.

"We came to this tournament because we wanted to showcase our graduated, senior, and junior players and we definitely achieved this goal,” Academy Coach and College Recruiting Coordinator Alex Pozo said. “At some point, we could not count the number of brochures we had to give out to college coaches and the number of conversations and business cards we had taken after each game with college scouts. This is great news for our boys, as it shows that they will have a chance at some program, on some level, around the nation to continue their academic and athletic careers beyond high school.”
