EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC Academy Midfielder Diego Uribe has committed to Sul Ross State University, becoming the 15th Locomotive Academy player to commit to play college soccer since the Academy’s founding in 2020.

"The Sul Ross coach and team made me feel loved, and I’m very excited to join this program,” the 17-year-old El Paso native said. “Locomotive opened new opportunities for me, including this one, that I don’t think I would have ever gotten if I wasn’t here. I’m grateful to everyone at Locomotive for supporting me in my journey with the Academy and I’m blessed to have been given this opportunity with the Lobos.”

Joining the Locomotive Academy in 2020, Uribe was moved up to the U-20 USL Academy team in 2022 and was pushed to challenge himself with the U-20's. Since taking over the Academy, Academy Director Ivan Militar has been proud of the 17-year-old's development and is glad to see him make the decision to go to SRSU.

“Diego represents everything that is the El Paso Locomotive FC Academy,” Militar said. “He is dedicated to our program and values, a high achiever in academics and on the field and a kind, intelligent human being motivated to achieve the best version of himself. He is an example player for our program’s pipeline, starting within our Academy teams before moving up to our fully funded U-20 team. He will now go to a competitive and exciting college soccer program where he can continue his academic and athletic career, and we are very excited for Diego and his future!”

The Sul Ross Lobos – based in Alpine, Texas – were recently approved for reclassification to compete in NCAA Division II and will become a member of the Lone Star Conference beginning July 1, 2024.
